Privacy and cookies
One analytics tool that can set cookies, zero adverts, and zero data sold to third parties. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland nothing analytics-related is stored until you say yes.
Analytics and Consent
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which guides get used, loaded through Google's
Consent Mode v2. Advertising storage — ad_storage,
ad_user_data, ad_personalization — is denied for everyone,
everywhere, always: this site carries no advertising.
- EEA, United Kingdom, Switzerland — analytics storage defaults to denied. Nothing is stored until you press "Accept analytics" (consent under GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). The site works identically either way.
- Rest of the world — analytics defaults to granted with no banner, and "Cookie settings" in the footer of every page switches it off on the spot.
To decide whether to show the banner, the page asks our host's own endpoint
(/cdn-cgi/trace, Cloudflare) for a two-letter country code and nothing else.
If that lookup fails or takes over 1.5 seconds we show the banner anyway. Your choice is
stored in localStorage for 180 days and overrides the regional default in
both directions; "Cookie settings" deletes it and asks again.
Everything This Site Can Place on Your Device
| Name | Type | Set when | Lifetime | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_* |
Cookies (Google Analytics 4) | Only after you accept analytics — or by default outside the EEA/UK/CH if you have not opted out | Up to 2 years, set by Google | Distinguishes returning browsers for aggregate statistics |
pt_consent_v1 |
localStorage | When you press Accept or Decline | 180 days | Remembers your consent choice |
pt_geo |
sessionStorage | First page view of a browser session | Until the browser closes | Caches the country code so the banner logic runs once |
That is the complete list. The last two are browser storage rather than cookies — they never reach us and hold no identifiers — but we disclose them anyway. We also run Cloudflare Web Analytics, which measures page views without cookies, without storage and without fingerprinting; it sets nothing on your device, so it runs regardless of consent.
Your Rights
In the EEA, UK and Switzerland you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting past processing. Withdrawal needs no email — "Cookie settings" in the footer is the mechanism, live on every page. You may also lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.
The honest footnote: this site has no accounts, forms, newsletter or comments, so in most cases the personal data we hold about you is none. Analytics data is aggregated and pseudonymous, and consent choices live only in your browser. Email us and we hold your address and message for as long as the correspondence needs, then delete it on request. For any privacy request: [email protected].
Third Parties
- Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site, processing standard connection data (IP address, request URL) as any host does.
- Google processes analytics data on our behalf when — and only when — analytics storage is granted.
- GetYourGuide and Trip.com receive nothing while you browse, with one technical exception: tour photographs are served from GetYourGuide's image CDN, so your browser requests them from its servers. Click through to book and their privacy policy takes over; from that point they are independent controllers. We never see your name, payment details or booking data — affiliate reporting reaches us as anonymous totals.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. There is no advertising, remarketing or data brokerage on this site. If that ever changed, this page would change first and the consent defaults would be re-asked, not silently rewritten.
